The selection has waned since Twitter made life hard for third-party apps some years ago (see “ How Do We Fix Twitter?,” 11 August 2015), but a handful of alternative Twitter clients are still available and seem firmly entrenched. Users of the app must now find replacements.

On 16 February 2018, Twitter made that official, announcing it was pulling the app from the Mac App Store and would be dropping support for it entirely a month later.

TweetDeck Is Going Awayįor the uninitiated, TweetDeck is a Twitter dashboard app that comprises a series of customisable columns. Meanwhile, Tweeten arrives as a suitable replacement for TweetDeck. As the macOS app gets discontinued, Tweetdeck is currently available as a web app and Chrome app. Tweetdeck allows users to manage multiple Twitter accounts and lets them customise their feeds. Twitter is shutting down TweetDeck for Macs on July 1, 2022.
